As a handmade products seller, you already have a unique differentiator built into your products, and that is the fact that they are handmade. Your challenge is to constantly identify competitors, and monitor what sellers are appearing first not only in Google, but also in Etsy, Amazon, BigCartel, etc. That way, you will get an idea of what keywords are performing best, and what these sites photographs, product descriptions and client reviews look like.
A good site to look at is Kelly’s Soaps, Salts & Fizzies. She has clearly defined categories on her site, a section dedicated to client reviews (that contain excellent keywords and positive words associated with her products), and note that she even has named one of her site pages all natural sinus relief, which are keywords that talk about a solution to a problem, and aren’t merely describing the product. Someone with sinus issues who is sick of taking medication is going to be searching for exactly that term. Then, in her customer testimonials, she’s included various positive reviews from clients who’ve tried her sinus products. She keeps her product titles short and to the point (“body butter with emu oil”) and descriptions that contain important keywords.
